The Beach
The Bonfire
The Blues
and Bon Voyage
to those flying over
The Kennedy Clan on their Multi Million Dollar Compounds in Mass .Fla or the White House Lawn…brought “touch football” to the attention to the common person who mostly knew of only College or Professional televised and “high stakes” football. But even if it took such glamour and wealth and prestige to get this “common person” back yard game on to the TV screen….it took only the cheerful, playful, fun loving, and shivering HC group to play and enjoy this meaningless but fun sport on the beach at…..Dockweilder State Beach
As in the Kennedy days a few of the “gals” played along with the “president’s boys” so did a few of the HC “gals” play with the “preacher and his boys”. Who were these “gals”? Well there was Melody and Julie, wearing her fighting “Irish green”
T Shirt.. and maybe others I couldn’t see from my “sunk in the sand” beach chair.
The bonfire “boys” who came to my house and saved me the effort of binding all that wood for community pick up…were Alburn in his trusty Dodge Ram pick up,Martin,Leslie with his mariner cap, and of course Sean the trusty “skipper” directing it all.
And did you notice that Lyrical Lennox was the one who started that hugh bonfire “properly” ?…which means cutting wood into appropriate small kindling to get it started. I watched with apt attention as he skillfully use the hatchet to split the boards into small slivers so as to easily catch fire…and he didn’t mishap and hit his hand with the “bloody hatchet”. No small feat. !
And then to watch with vicarious remembrance ,Bill and Kristen’s boys throw new wood on the fire and poke harmlessly at the bellowing flames….I was a kid again with them…weren’t you?.
I didn’t go near the lapping waves but I heard the Pastor say something about it was “too cold” for the kids, but I heard Nicole and Lauren dare each other to go step in the ocean. Did they? Yep, in fact they went in up to their knees. Nicole tells me the water was warm????
And then hearing Ella James (I think) belting out a blues number over the portable player
that some thoughtful soul brought caused me to bring my chair closer to the sound.
And bon voyage….well that is for all those hundreds of passengers in hugh planes that flew over headed for “over there” for fun, family, of their own…,
as we enjoyed fun and family below…
Sabbath evening on the beach with bonfire blazing…
And the people said ….Amen!
